Child Life Specialist Services

Many times parents receive the well-intentioned, but incorrect advice to protect their kids at all costs. Often this involves withholding information from children, covering situations with “white lies,” and making promises that aren’t within your power to keep. Even when parents keep information from their children, children always know something is wrong and usually what they imagine is scarier than the actual truth. We want you to know that not only is knowledge their right, it is one of their greatest needs.

  • Your children are affected by everything that happens in the family.

  • The more serious the situation, the more they will be impacted.

  • Lying to your children, in any way, will make things worse.

Our child life specialists are here to ease the emotional burden you carry for the children in your life. We give your children and safe space to receive factual and age-appropriate information and support that establishes healthy coping skills and resiliency. We help parents and caregivers know what to say, how to say it, and when to share.

We offer both individual (50 min.) and family (75 min.) sessions. Most kids and teens require between 6 to 8 sessions; however, this is dependent upon the unique needs of each individual and their circumstances. Some common factors determining whether individual or family sessions are needed are:

  1. the age(s) of your child(ren)

  2. the number of children

  3. the diagnosis, injury, or medical event
